The Cisco APIC-SERVER-M2 (APIC-M2) is the Medium configuration, second-generation controller for Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI). It serves as the unified point of policy authority, automation, and management for the ACI spine-leaf fabric, and is always deployed as a cluster (minimum of three controllers) for high availability. The M2 Medium config is intended for deployments up to roughly 1000 edge ports. The APIC is not in the data-plane forwarding path, so loss of the controller cluster does not interrupt existing fabric traffic.
