Meraki devices use the Meraki cloud for centralised management and control. The Meraki cloud is licensed on a "per device, per year" basis. Each organisation is licensed for a certain number of devices through a termination date.

Since the MX is 100% cloud managed, installation and remote management is simple. The MX has a comprehensive suite of network services, eliminating the need for multiple appliances. These services include Layer 7 application firewall, content filtering, web search filtering, SNORT® based intrusion prevention, web caching, Intelligent WAN with multiple uplinks and 4G failover.

Enterprise
Enterprise Edition License is for one security appliance and includes: stateful firewall, site to site VPN, branch routing, link bonding, failover and application control.

Advanced
Advanced Security Licence is for one security appliance and includes: stateful firewall, Site to site VPN, Client VPN, Branch routing, Link bonding and failover, Application control, Web caching, WAN optimisation, Content filtering, Google SafeSearch, YouTube for Schools, Intrusion detection (IDS), Anti-Virus and Anti-Phishing.

SD-WAN
SD-WAN Licence is for one security appliance and delivers: Cloud-based centralised management with open APIs and 24×7 enterprise support, True zero-touch provisioning and firmware updates, Site-to-site Auto VPN, Client VPN, Traffic shaping and prioritisation, Automatic WAN failover, Sub-second site-to-site VPN failover and dynamic path selection, Source-based routing and IP-based local breakout (coming soon), Cellular failover, Geo-based firewall rules, Content filtering, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, Cisco Advanced Malware Protection (AMP)
